CalTimes

This is my most recent major website that I worked on. The newspaper of my alma mater, California University of PA, needed a completely new website. I created a user friendly backend administration system as well as a clean frontend for the reader. The site was created in one semester from scratch. I considered taking advantage of an existing CMS such as Drupal or others but decided that it was more beneficial to created a custom solution. The programming experience I gained from the project was invaluable and the custom solution I was able to deliver was very well received.

The site was created solely by me and utilizes a myriad of technologies such as PHP, MySQL, Smarty, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS, RSS, and Flash. I gave the site several SEO tweaks. It is listed under the DMOZ project and Yahoo!Directory, text-browser friendly (Section 508 valid), and made use of the Google webmaster tools. The culmination of these features resulted in it resulting high in search engine results, if not number one, under several keywords.

CalTimes.org is a table-less design and validates XHTML 1.0 strict on every page. If I were to do it over again, the only thing I would change is the URLs to be more search-engine friendly using Apache's mod_rewrite capability.

Kappa Delta Pi

The KDP site was for a CalU sorority. I was a little more experienced with CSS when I created it but it is still a table based layout.

It uses minor PHP code for templates and a dynamic navigation system. No database was used as the site is largely static.

Scrabble Club

I am the founder and ex-president of the Scrabble Club at CalU. This site was an experiment as I was just beginning to understand CSS and its capabilities.

Since this site was created much earlier in my career and uses tables for its layout. It makes use of a minimal templating system and some basic CSS. The tools page uses PHP and MySQL to perform dictionary searches.
